I’ve spent most of my life exploring Palo Duro Canyon and got serious about it around 20 years ago. I’ve been from one end to the other, from corner to corner, and on all the trails. I was a little surprised when some of my hiking buddies showed me amazing photos near a place that I know well and is one of my favorite places to visit that’s near the main part of the park. This just goes to show you to never leave a stone unturned. This is truly Palo Duro Canyon as it was before this area was settled. The Lost Grove is situated in a box canyon that has the tallest cedar and cottonwood trees I’ve ever seen. The walls of the canyon are not matched anywhere else in the park. Natural springs drip from maidenhair ferns. You do need to beware the poison ivy and snakes. The first explorers to write about Palo Duro Canyon described huge groves of tall cedar trees with natural springs and abundant game. This is one place where you can step back in time and look down upon the same view.
